Sydney Sixers pulled off a thrilling four-wicket victory over Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), thanks to a dramatic last-ball boundary from Sarah Coyte at Allan Border Field on Friday night.
Chasing a target of 155, the Sixers finished at 157 for 6, with Coyte hitting a boundary off the final delivery to secure a memorable win. Ellyse Perry played a crucial role in the successful chase, scoring a brilliant 58 off 38 balls to put the Sixers in a commanding position.
The Sixers appeared comfortable at 103 for 1 before losing four wickets for just 27 runs, allowing the Heat to fight their way back into the contest. Alice Capsey, however, kept the chase on track with an unbeaten 21 off 14 deliveries.
The match went down to the final over, with the Sixers needing five runs from Lucy Hamilton's over. Excellent death bowling reduced the equation to three runs from two balls. Erin Burns was then run out while attempting a second run off the penultimate delivery, leaving the Sixers needing two runs from the final ball to win.
With all the pressure on her shoulders, Coyte held her nerve and guided Hamilton's fuller delivery past backward point for a match-winning boundary, sparking celebrations in the Sixers camp.
Earlier, Brisbane Heat posted a competitive 154 for 5 after impressive half-centuries from Georgia Redmayne and Charli Knott. Redmayne scored 58 off 44 balls, while Knott contributed 57 off 47 deliveries.
The pair laid a strong foundation for the Heat, taking the team to 117 for 1 in the 15th over. Knott struck five fours and three sixes, while Redmayne found the boundary eight times.
Sydney Sixers captain Ashleigh Gardner broke the partnership by dismissing Knott, before Redmayne was dismissed shortly afterwards. Annie O'Neil provided a late boost with a useful 18 off 12 balls to help Brisbane finish on 154.
Despite the Heat's strong batting performance and a late fightback with the ball, the Sixers held their nerve in a tense finish. Perry's half-century and Coyte's match-winning final-ball boundary proved decisive in securing a memorable four-wicket victory.
