West Indies captain Roston Chase has praised left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican for his outstanding performance in the first Test against Bangladesh, describing him as a "good craftsman" following the visitors' impressive eight-wicket victory in Mirpur.

Warrican played a crucial role in West Indies' success, claiming nine wickets in the match to earn the Player of the Match award. The Caribbean side's spinners dominated their Bangladeshi counterparts, taking 16 wickets compared to Bangladesh's eight.

Speaking after the victory, Chase highlighted Warrican's consistency, experience and growing influence within the team's bowling attack.

"I think that we have a quality spin attack, especially led by Jomel Warrican. He's a guy that I've known for many, many years, he went to school with me. He's a good craftsman. He's been improving and anytime he gets a chance, he always delivers," Chase said.

The West Indies captain also credited the team's fast bowlers for maintaining pressure on Bangladesh by controlling the scoring rate and consistently bowling disciplined lines and lengths.

Chase believes the bowlers' ability to restrict Bangladesh's first-innings lead and take early wickets in the second innings proved decisive in the match.

"Not letting them lead us by too many runs was key because you don't want to be getting too many runs in Bangladesh, especially in the last innings," he explained.

He further added that West Indies' early breakthroughs in Bangladesh's second innings put the hosts under significant pressure and helped the visitors take control of the contest.

Brandon King Impresses With Unbeaten 81

Chase also praised opener Brandon King for his confident batting during West Indies' chase of 170 runs on a challenging surface.

King remained unbeaten on 81 off 115 deliveries, striking 10 fours and one six to guide his team to victory.

According to Chase, King showed excellent control against spin bowling and never appeared uncomfortable at the crease.

"He never really looked like the spinners were on top of him. He looked like he was in control, even using his feet coming down the wicket," Chase said.

The captain also highlighted King's aggressive style and powerful stroke play, expressing satisfaction at seeing him dominate spin bowling in conditions that traditionally favour Bangladesh's spinners.

West Indies' Last-Minute Team Change Pays Off

Chase also explained the decision to leave experienced fast bowler Kemar Roach out of the playing XI and hand left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop his Test debut.

The West Indies management made the change after assessing the pitch on the opening day. Although the surface initially had considerable grass, the captain felt it was dry underneath and would become more suitable for spin bowling once the grass was removed.

Bishop justified his selection by claiming two wickets in Bangladesh's first innings, providing valuable support to Warrican and Chase.

Chase admitted that the team was surprised by the amount of grass on the surface but was pleased that the last-minute selection change worked in their favour.

The captain believed West Indies had read the conditions correctly, and Bishop's contribution further strengthened their bowling attack.

The eight-wicket victory highlighted West Indies' growing confidence in spin-friendly conditions, with Warrican leading the way and Brandon King delivering a match-winning performance with the bat.
